About Radiesse®
Radiesse® is a safe, FDA-approved dermal filler used to
correct moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, including nasolabial
folds. Radiesse® is made of unique
calcium-based microspheres suspended in a natural gel that is injected into the
skin. Radiesse® is sold by the syringe. Calcium hydroxylapatite, a normal
constituent of bone, suspended in a carboxymethycellulose gel make up this
injectable implant.
Safety of Radiesse®
Injections of the substances contained in Radiesse® do not
cause chronic inflammatory or immune responses; and, therefore, do not require
allergy testing prior to injection.
How Results Are Achieved with Radiesse®
Radiesse® works with your body, below the skin’s
surface. Tiny calcium-based microspheres
form a “scaffold” to support and stimulate the growth of your own
collagen. Over time, the calcium-based
microspheres gradually break down and are safely and naturally absorbed by your
body. Radiesse® does more than
temporarily fill in facial fords and wrinkles.
Radiesse® rebuilds the skin’s foundation and restores a youthful look,
without the risks associated with a permanent implant.
Radiesse® is injected into the skin with the use of a local
anesthetic. Results are immediate.
Duration of Radiesse®
Radiesse® typically lasts a year or more. As with any filler, however, results may
vary.
Prior to a Radiesse® Treatment Session
Avoid aspirin or aspirin containing products, unless
medically contraindicated, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Green Tea,
Garlic, Ginko, Ginseng and St. John’s Wort for a period of 10 days prior to a
Radiesse® injection. Radiesse® may not
be administered in sites where there is active inflammation.
What to Expect During a Radiesse® Treatment Session
Radiesse® injection sessions normally take 30 – 60
minutes. Makeup will be removed, if
applicable, and the area will be cleaned with an antiseptic solution. A topical numbing cream is usually applied
and a local anesthetic given before the treatment begins to help minimize any
discomfort. Radiesse® will then be
injected into the skin. A chiller will
be used during the Radiesse® procedure to help reduce post procedure side
effects.
After a Radiesse® Treatment Session
Ice can be applied for a few minutes at a time to the
treatment area to help reduce swelling.
Wrap the ice in a cloth and avoid placing the ice directly on your
skin. Avoid excessive sun and UV lamp
exposure until any initial swelling and redness have resolved. Avoid the above-mentioned medications and supplements,
unless medically contraindicated, until any bruising has disappeared.
Possible Side Effects of Radiesse® Treatments
Most patients experience some bruising with Radiesse®
injections. Certain herbal supplements such as bromelain and arnica may help
with prevention and treatment of bruises.
Other possible injection-related side effects include mild irritation,
swelling, itching and tenderness at the injection sites. These conditions typically resolved on their
own within 2 weeks. As with all procedures
that involve an injection through the skin, there is a risk of infection.
Radiesse® works with your body to stimulate new
collagen and deliver a natural look that lasts. Radiesse® is safe and longer lasting than most fillers. Patient satisfaction is uniformly high with
Radiesse® treatments.
